Donations from individuals account for more than half of the money spent on charity – $ 286.7 billion, followed by funds ($ 66.9 billion), posthumous charity gifts $ 35.7, world and contributions from corporations – $ 20.8 billion.

Among the recipients of charitable contributions, the largest increase was observed in money allocated to funds, their number in 2017 increased by 15.5% compared to 2016. This was based on several large donations provided to foundations by individual philanthropists such as Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, as well as Michael Dell.

However, if we talk about actual amounts, then the greatest receipt is received by religious organizations in 2017. The Americans and Canadians donated $ 127.37 billion to them, which is 2.9% more than in 2016.

While the total amount of charitable contributions has increased, the number of Americans and Canadians participating in charity is decreasing. From 2000 to 2014, the proportion of Americans and Canadians who donated to charity decreased from 66.2% to 55.5%.
