We hear it, we see it, we feel it,

let’s stop it.”

North Point Douglas Women’s Centre is putting special focus on domestic violence over October and November 2014 through weekly marches, education, and community engagement.

Many neighbourhood women and their families experience violence every day. This includes intimate partner violence, violence in the community, and systemic violence from the state including the denial of basic supports, and lack of support for family stability.

Women at the centre say that despite this common experience, the issue is rarely addressed head on, nor spoken about enough. We have chosen to mark these two months as a time to share and act; taking a public stand with hope that more families experiencing violence will take steps to heal and change, and be supported in this work.

November is Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Manitoba. Show your support for stopping violence in our neighbourhood by hanging a lantern for others to see. Hang it in a window, or a safe spot outdoors.

Lantern making at the centre: Wed, Oct 15 at 130pm.

Or- pick up your lantern making kit at the centre on or after Oct 15.

We’ll be hosting other lantern making opportunities in the community. Check here, or on our facebook page for updates.
